Party in Portsmouth!!

Today’s Portsmouth would suprise and delight Charlie Pace; it’s vibrancy is growing!

The City of Portsmouth is planning a huge hometown celebration for the 61st year of TOSRV ending at the southernmost city in Ohio!  Portsmouth has a full party planned for riders, former riders, spectators, and bike enthusiasts. The new location of the TOSRV finish line recieved enthusiastic reviews from riders in 2021. The Party in the Park will take place along the river with views of the infamous Portsmouth bridges and in the heart of the growing Boneyfiddle District of Portsmouth.  You’ll also be steps away from the city’s famous floodwall murals and can get your picture with the TOSRV riders who are on the wall complimentary of Connex volunteers.

Live Music – Two headliner bands will be performing on stage at Three Bridges Park, Of the Dell AND Mikey Mike & the Big Unit from 1-5pm.

In addition, for the first-time ever, Portsmouth Connex is hosting a Vintage Cruisers & Custom Bicycle Show.  Anyone with an interesting cruiser or vintage bike is encouraged to display bikes in the park from 1-5pm.  Displaying bikes is free and no pre-registration is required.  Those planning to display bikes should bring a sun umbrella and a lawn chair.  Awards for Best in Show, Most Unique, and People’s Choice will be presented at the end of the festivities.

Food trucks will be in the park for your after-ride snacks. Dinner in Portsmouth is on your own. A few favorites are Melini’s, Scioto Ribber, Port City Cafe, Patties & Pints, and Coffee at the Lofts.

The Portsmouth Brewing Company (Ohio’s Oldest Brewery) will be serving six freshly made brews on draught at a table located just outside the brewery and adjacent to the infamous Portsmouth Bike Mural.  This area of Portsmouth is a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) and is also home to Portsmouth’s first outdoor recreation store, River City Adventure Company (RCAC).

RCAC will have special promotions for TOSRV riders and unique food trucks on the lot.  In addition to the Vintage Cruisers & Custom Bicycle Show, Portsmouth Connex will be bringing the smiles with a Welcome to Portsmouth finish banner and hometown welcome.

Riders may begin from Portsmouth, begin from Chillicothe, and begin from Columbus but they all will want to finish in Portsmouth and join the Portsmouth Party.

A little history about the Portsmouth Floodwall Murals:  In 1943 a flood wall was constructed to protect the city after massive flooding.  The murals are approximately 20 feet high, 2,000 feet long and run along the scenic riverfront. In 1993 the first mural was placed on the wall.  There are currently 55 murals depicting over 2,000 years of history in the Ohio River Valley.  On the evening of September 25th, there is   With recent investments added to decades of history and renovations, 2nd Street has become a bustling place to live, visit, and discover.

MTB and Hiking in the Shawnee State Park & Forest

Scioto County is also home to the largest state forest in Ohio, Shawnee State Forest.  The forest contains a 1,095 acre Shawnee State Park inside the 63,000 acre Shawnee State Forest.  The park features include mountain biking trails, lakes (for boating, fishing, and swimming), disc golf, picnicking, and hiking.  The mountain bike trails that have been forged in the forest have been done so through SOMBA (Southern Ohio Mountain Bike Association). Plan a day of activities.

Starting in Portsmouth and riding to Chilicothe and back? You can pick up your packet at the SOMC LIFE Center on Friday until 9:00 PM or Saturday morning starting 7:00 – 9:00 AM.

Portsmouth has grown in the last several years with several small businesses developing within the area, primarily in the downtown district.  The murals, Shawnee State University, antique shops, unique shops, eateries and more make the downtown area a happening place.  Families and friends of TOSRV riders will certainly find plenty of activities to keep themselves entertained while waiting to welcome riders to town.  Packet pickup and ride starts from Portsmouth are also available.
